A bench headed by Justice KM Joseph had expressed concern over states ..
A Supreme Court bench, led by Justice KM Joseph, expressed its concern over the inaction of states against hate speeches and remarked that the state has become “impotent and powerless.”
Following this, a Hindu organization has approached the apex court, seeking the registration of FIRs against recent incidents of violence that occurred during Ram Navami celebrations in different parts of India. The NGO, Hindu Front for Justice, has filed a petition seeking protection for Hindu religious processions on such occasions.
The plea submitted by advocate Vishnu Shankar Jain states that large-scale violence was committed by members of the Muslim community in a pre-planned manner at several locations across the country namely, at Howrah, Uttar Dinajpur (West Bengal), Sasaram and Nalanda (Bihar), Hyderabad (Telangana), Aurangabad (Maharashtra), Vadodara (Gujarat), Jamshedpur (Jharkhand),” the petition filed through advocate Vishnu Shankar Jain said.
The petition seeks directions from the court to the concerned state governments to determine the loss suffered by people who were injured or lost their lives during the violence. Additionally, it has asked the chief secretaries of these states to submit reports on the causes that led to the mob attacks and violence. The Ram Navami festivities were marred by the deaths of 14 devotees in separate incidents in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, as well as clashes and arson in some parts of the country. – With PTI Input
