A petition has been submitted to the Supreme Court by a lawyer, urging the Bar Council of India (BCI) to promptly release the results of the 17th All India Bar Examination (AIBE) held in February 2021. The petitioner asserts that the BCI’s failure to disclose the AIBE results is violating her legal right to practice as an advocate, which is affecting her income. The petitioner contends that without a means of livelihood, life can become unbearable, and that Article 21 of the Indian Constitution, which guarantees the right to life as a fundamental right, encompasses the right to livelihood. The AIBE is an essential test for lawyers seeking enrollment with a State Bar Council and practicing law. The unreasonable delay in announcing the AIBE results amounts to the misuse of the BCI’s authority, and the petitioner has asked the Court to direct the BCI to declare the results without further delay.
