High Court denies stay order on ‘The Kerala Story’ release, stating it is a work of fiction and not history.

On Friday, the Kerala high court acknowledged the statement of the ‘The Kerala Story’ producer that they will remove the teaser claiming that over 32,000 women from Kerala were recruited to ISIS. The court also rejected the request to halt the screening of the film.

  • The High Court of Kochi rejected the request to issue a stay order on the release of the film ‘The Kerala Story’.
  • The court observed that the film is fiction and not history and that screening it will not disrupt the communal harmony prevalent in Kerala.
  • The Censor Board requested the court to reject the pleas seeking to stay the screening of the movie, stating that it has ensured the movie does not contain dialogues or scenes that intentionally hurt or insult any religion.
  • The film is being screened in 30 theatres across the state, and protests were held by various organizations in front of cinema halls in Kochi and Kozhikode.
  • The film had originally claimed that 32,000 women from Kerala were converted to Islam and were made to join terrorist organizations like ISIS, but the Censor Board clarified that the movie does not contain this claim.
  • Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and other political leaders had criticized the film’s trailer, calling it a deliberate attempt by the Sangh Parivar to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere in Kerala.
